The Ontario Telemedicine Network offers all Ontario residents access to telemedicine consultations with a medical specialist while remaining very close to their home or cottage using secure, state of the art videoconferencing equipment. Your appointment with the physician resembles a regular doctor's appointement but the physician you are consulting with will appear on a television screen. Otn services are free to all Ontario residents and put you in contact with the right health care provider at the right time and at the right place. All 3 sites of the Sudbury-East Community Health Centre are equipped with telemedicine videoconferencing equipment and medical peripherals.
As an example, if you reside in Sudbury-East and your primary care physician is with the City of Lakes Family Health Team in Sudbury, you may be able to see your family physician at the Sudbury-East CHC. Call us or your FHT for more information.
An OTN.teledermSFMD appointment is like a regular doctor's appointment, except that your health care provider or nurse will take photos of your skin condition and send them electronically to a dermatologist.
If you suffer from chronic physical or emotional pain, ask your health care provider if you could benefit from Mindfulness Based Chronic Pain Management (MBCPM) with Annie Hebert through the Otn network. Sudbury-East CHC has offered Level 1, 2 & 3 classes as well as health care professional classes in mindfulness. Mindfulness has been shown to aid significantly in chronic physical and emotional pain management.
People who suffer from chronic disease such as heart or lung disease can be referred to the Telehomecare program. Ask your health care provider about this.
Otn also offers educational webcasts to both the general population and the health care provider. You can learn about your chronic illness and its management, exercising, nutrition and many other topics.
